CAA Gold Accredited Member - EdStart

Passionate about helping children develop their social as well as fitness skills, EdStart is a children’s sports education provider, which was formed in 2007 and is now working with hundreds of schools, local authorities and organisations across the country.

Spotting a real need to address the national obesity crisis, a subject that Managing Director Chris Irwin is incredibly passionate about -  EdStart’s mission is to improve children’s fitness, offering full coverage of the primary PE curriculum, as well as a wide range of afterschool sports clubs.

On top of this, EdStart has also developed an innovative approach to children’s fitness, recognising the real need to tackle childhood obesity and encourage children to develop a life-long positive attitude to sport, physical activity and healthy living by creating health and fitness software which is the first of its kind, in specifically targeting children’s fitness.

EdStart’s fitness software offers teachers and children a dedicated programme that assists teachers, providing extensive resources including a virtual coach that allows teachers to deliver the subject of PE with confidence, enabling schools to fast-track their pupils to improved levels of fitness and health.

Managing Director of EdStart, Chris Irwin says

Having worked within the educational sector for over 10 years, as well as being a former professional rugby league player, I wanted to channel my love of sports into something positive, which would help tackle the obesity crisis and get children interested in fitness. EdStart’s mission is to break down the barriers that children feel when thinking about sports, helping build up their confidence and improve their fitness at the same time – whilst supporting teachers deliver PE lessons that will help children gain the skills and knowledge they need to live a healthy life.

As well as an ongoing mission to improve the skills of children in every area of PE, the company also provides a specialist education service for children currently outside of mainstream education.
